Teddies Knitting Pattern
Teddies Knitting Instructions: Use double knitting yarn. Use size 10 (3¼ mm)
needles. Use garter stitch apart from head. Use main colour for head and paws, other colours for
trouser, jumper and scarf. Cast on 10 stitches in main colour. Knit 10 rows. Change to trouser
colour and knit 30 rows. Make another leg in the same way. Knit across all 20 stitches and work 16
rows. Change to jumper colour and knit 24 rows. Change to main colour for head and also change
to stocking stitch. Work for 5½ inches and then change to jumper colour. Continue remainder of
Teddy in reverse order.
After knitting the 5½ inches head section knit 24 rows for the jumper, 16 rows of upper trouser, then put the first 10 stitches onto a stitch
holder or a small kilt pin or a big-enough safety pin (making sure you don't split any stitches). Knit a leg on the remaining 10 stitches,
i.e. 30 rows of trouser then 10 rows for the foot and cast off. Pick up stitches from holder and do the second leg.
Stitch down the sides of the head. With jumper colour, pick up 8 stitches either side of neck join
(16 stitches in all) and knit 20 rows. Change to main colour and knit 10 rows for paws. Sew up
Teddy, leaving opening in side (under arm). Sew diagonal top corners for ears before stuffing.
Please stuff Teddy with only kapok/ polyester or other healthy padding.
Foam rubber is not recommended as babies chew it!
Then run a thread through the knitting around the neck and draw it in. Sew a happy face on Teddy,
using small straight stitches for the eyes, nose and mouth, such as back stitch or stem stitch.
(These must be well fastened off.)
Scarf: cast on 60 stitches. Knit 4 rows garter stitch and cast off. Place the scarf
on Teddy and sew firmly to back of neck. Do not sew at front.
If you can make a cloth drawstring bag, finished size 10” x 13” to put Teddy in, it would be
appreciated, but if not, they can be made later.
Please do not use elastic as a drawstring.
